His passion for F1 goes beyond making a trip to at least one circuit in a year and hearing the 24,000 rpm howl of 20-odd cars on the race track.
Rajeev Chandrashekhar has taken his interest for the sport to another level by collecting F1-related memorabilia of his favourite drivers and teams, and that too not from merchandise stores, but from the drivers and teams themselves.

And that’s not all. He is also a member of exclusive clubs whose members collect F1 memorabilia and then barter them to enhance their personal collections.
“Getting a collection in place is about knowing the right people at the right time. The first time I went to an F1 race in KL, I got to walk the pitlane and even meet Michael Schumacher. Over the years I have tried to catch at least one race live and have covered most circuits, barring Germany, Brazil and Canada,” says Rajeev, whose collection comprises personal items that once belonged to Ayrton Senna and Schumi.
“I have some stuff from Senna, but the majority is Schumi memorabilia, which also means it is predominantly Ferrari souvenirs. I have the nose cone of a 2002 Ferrari race car, driving suits, gloves, helmets, steering wheels, shoes and much more, with each item autographed by the F1 legend” he adds.
And while Rajeev is immensely proud of his collection, he regrets not having enough Senna material. “I wish I had more stuff on Senna. Unfortunately, in the time he was at his peak, F1 was still in infancy and following his death, a lot of his personal stuff was discarded. I am glad that I managed to get an autographed helmet which Senna wore just months before he died. Unfortunately, now all Senna memorabilia is handled by a trust and the items are auctioned to raise money. They are prohibitively expensive. I would love to bid at an auction, but at such an event you end of competing with billionaires and may not always get what you want,” he signs off.
